Programmers Don't Read Books -- But You Should →
I had forgotten to mention this in my original post, but I have been using O’Reilly Safari for a while and really like it. It has books from not only O’Reilly but many other publishers, and is a great resource if you are working in many technologies, or you just need a chapter from a book not the whole thing. I strongly recommend anyone who writes code for a living, or even as a hobby...

Programmers Don't Read Books -- But You Should →
I agree with most of what Jeff is saying, but I strongly believe in the usefulness of books when programing, especially when working with technologies older then 5-7 years or not widely used. Currently I have 12 books on my desk, 3 of which are open and I have used in the past week to find information that I was unable to find on the web.

WWDC early registration pricing extended →
I also got a phone call from ADC this morning informing me of this. There either struggling at getting people to shell out $1300(after the $300 discount) to come or they want a ton of people there. I would love to go but it is nowhere near worth $1300, and a weeks vacation from work. Any Apple Development companies need a developer to attend this for them email me.

I just saw Anthony Anderson coming out of his trailer on Water St. I know it is New York, and there are lots of famous people, but I have not seen that many on the street. Oh. and I also saw Bridgette Wilson (Veronica Vaughn) in line at Whole Foods Wednesday.

The things you learn while taking a stroll...
rockuboff: I was walking up Broadway yesterday and walked past Duane Street and Reade Street. Am I the only New Yorker who didn’t know that Duane Reade was named after these streets?? Thank you for also getting your mind blown when you saw that. I think the original was on that block.  I also like that the NY rep in John Addams was named Mr. Duane.

Would you pay for a Tumblr Pro account?
ben: lunchfood: Reblog to let me know. yes I would have to say that all depends on what features the Pro account has that the Free one does not, and how much it will cost. From what I have seen from the tumblr guys, and posts that I have read from Marco specifically concerning iPhone apps development and pricing, I trust that the features would justify the price. Personally I have...

Singularity - The Managed OS →
I know there is not a lot of Microsoft love on Tumblr, but as a developer this is very cool. This is an operating system written mostly(all but a few hundred lines) in a managed language, Spec# (an extension of C#). It may be the inner nerd in me, or the hours spent debugging native code with windbg, but using windbg to debug Kernel code with managed symbols got me really excited.

Writing compulsions
marco: I conserve exclamation points. People overuse them, and they’ve become devalued. By conserving them, they gain significance for the rare occasions that I think they’re warranted. I never use “meh” or “heh”, and I don’t like when other people do. If I think something is very funny, I’ll use “LOL” — but I use it sparingly, so it retains its significance, like exclamation points. I hate...

I love my job, pt. 2
sharingtime: My company is very laid back. I curse loudly and say inappropriate things for much of the day without repercussions. Still, I wonder if I started addressing my co-workers as “cuntface” how quickly it would take for me to be fired. Or punched in the face. Would it be like this? Me: Hey, cuntface! How’s it hanging? CEO: You’re fired. I’m lucky enough to work in a place where the...

iPhone 2.0 BETA
I want to preface this by saying that I upgraded from a Jailbroken 1.1.3 iPhone to a 2.0 one and although I went through the long process of a full restore first I know it could cause problems. I also want to say I understand that this is a beta release and as a software developer I expect problems/crashes. That being said I am very disappointed with the quality of the iPhone 2.0 beta, it is very...

URL for audio post on Tumblr
three50eight: talby: Why cant we use a URL for Audio posts like we can for Pictures. I would have no problem hosting my own mp3s so I could post more then 1 a day and files larger then 10mb. I imagine the reason you cannot is because this is how they keep the RIAA off their ass. If they were to allow people to post all they wanted they may be libel. You CAN technically do this just not...

NEW YORK IN BLACK AND WHITE →
It is so cool seeing the places you walk through every day, 100 years ago. Seeing what has changed is cool, but seeing what was the same is even more amazing.  This makes me want to get a Derby Hat.
