“Why Russert and Carlin, and not O’Reilly and Mencia?”
– Some internet person (via Star and lifeofbk) Don’t worry though, Carlos Mencia does have a habit of copying what other comedians do. Maybe we’ll get lucky? (via livejamie) I never would wish that on anyone, but it is very true. Why do we get the good ones for so short and the bad ones for so...

Favorite George Carlin Quotes
“I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, “Where’s the self-help section?” She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.” ” I have as much authority as the Pope, I just don’t have as many people who believe it.”

lfarm: Aaron and I are obsessed with a highly under-appreciated show called My Boys. I just watched the first episode of the new season, and it is back, better than ever. It’s never too late. Thursdays at 9:30pm on TBS. I really love this show, although I didn’t like the sex and the cityesq episode where her friend from NYC came to visit, it made all us New Yorkers look like pompous asses.

Power user setup on OS X
marco: Casey Liss just got his first Mac. (I guess I won this.) Note to Windows readers: This post is full of the little squiggly “⌘” symbol found on the “Apple key” on the keyboard. Windows’ Unicode support is half-assed, so if you can’t see ⌘this⌘symbol⌘ or if it shows up as question marks or boxes, oh well. You’re probably already skimming over this post anyway because you’re angry that...

Watch the Apple keynote live
marco: I suggest: Text updates and basic pictures from MacRumors Live. They’re consistently the fastest to get text updates out, and their page automatically refreshes with AJAX so you don’t have to do anything. Photos from Engadget. They lag behind MacRumors Live by 5-10 minutes, but have better (and more) photos. It starts in 34 minutes (1:00 PM Eastern). My predictions about the next...

Support same-sex marriage and call! I just did!
lovepuppy: joshruben: It only takes 10 seconds! Governor Patterson has said that NY will recognize legal same-sex marriages from other states and countries. He’s doing a poll on whether people support it. New Restaurants for Families and Burger Lovers →
Wall Street Burger Shoppe is quite delicious, and now reading the details I may need to try the Shroom burger. It also helps that it is across the street from my office. If you are ever in the Downtown area I strongly suggest giving it a try.

Red Rocks
talby: Not only is there great acoustics here but the structure keeps all the weed smoke on the crowd. I stopped by here on my way to Vail a few months ago, and have to say it looked like the best place to see a concert ever. I really wish I had a chance to see a show there.

That's why hockey rules the NBA →
So well said. Players from the Penguins and Red Wings played more than 100 minutes of demolition-derby hockey last night in an arena about 100 degrees. Tomorrow night, they’re back at it in a new city. If NBA players had to play that much, David Stern would step in and give another six days off before the next game, on top of the 27 or so they already get between games now. So, enjoy Game 1 of...

64-bit PHP overcomes the stupid signed-integer...
marco: PHP’s integer type has always been a 32-bit signed integer with a maximum value of 2,147,483,647. I thought there was no alternative. Today I learned that you get 64-bit integers if you use the 64-bit version of PHP, so the maximum value is MUCH higher (9.2×1018). If you don’t know, here’s how to tell: 32-bit: $ echo '<?= PHP_INT_MAX . "\n" ?>' | php 2147483647 $ echo '<?=...
