I actually think this is a good thing. Fuel prices are going up and the airline needs a way to make up there raising costs. Their two options are raise ticket prices or charge for bags, I think this is a better way because you are only charged for what you use. My fear is that this will lead to even more people bringing a bigger carry on which is already annoying, I think that they should charge for carry ons over a certain size or weight also to discurage this.
